So, I got some questions for you football, um I mean soccer, fanatics here. What do you guys think of Donovan being left off the team? Also, is it pretty normal for a team to field players with dual citizenship? Will the US even make out of there pool they are playing in? And I guess finally what exactly would it take for us to be as good as the world greats in soccer?

Yes. You can represent a country if you can prove lineage back to grandparents from that country I believe. 3. Germany is strong but US stands a chance to be runner-up under Klinnsman. 4. Your leagues have to be stronger. Talents are groomed at a young age hence it is important to nurture kids early.

The reason why I asked is because in the first two questions there was big writes in the paper I read (USA today) at night while I work on the press printing our local paper. There was several reasons about the Donovan issue given. One was he piss off the coach taking his brewak from soccer and the other was that the coach didn't feel he was the same after hurting his knee.
As for the rest....I don't know if soccer will ever be as big as the other sports we have here in the US. The only time you hear about or see soccer here is during the Olympics and the world cup. Yeah, we have the MLS, but it seems to pale in comparison to the big leagues that are in Europe. Also, youth soccer has grown a lot here, but really doesn't seem to be much interest in the sport after someone gets out of college. The MLS league is small and you have to be a great player to play over seas. Hell, my little cousin played soccer for years in school and on travel teams. She even got a scholarship, but she turned it down because she was burned out from playing year round.
Also, kids for the most part, at least the ones that are great athletes, dream about playing in the NBA, NFL, or in the majors in baseball. I think that sucks up a lot of available talent and leaves the left overs for sports like soccer or tennis. It's crazy here just how much a big deal American football is here. The whole paper I print in the fall is all about high school and college football. In the other paper we print a ton of stuff is printed just about the travel baseball that's big in that area.
I don't know, I'm curious about what everyone else thinks about us playing in the big stage with ya'll.

The US is a mid-range team that might surprise by beating one of the big teams now and then...
But USA will never (read at least for a very long time) go all the way.
If soccer ever becomes a top 5 sport in the states then you might have a shot at the world cup title because history awards the countries with long traditions in soccer and these are countries where soccer is the no. 1 or 2 sport!

Agree with bobby. Football (soccer) comes behind Football, Baseball, Basketball and Hockey in terms of team sports in America.
Some major talent drains in there.
You forgot golf as well as a talent drain lol!

All you do is walk around and swing a metal club!

There's always massive scholarship programmes for the other 4 as well which I think has some effect.

lol. Was a bit of a joke giving that penalty. Based on that performance though Brazil aren't putting the fear of god into me like they used to.
