Hi, has anyone ever rode a bus to travel between states? Is it more affordable than driving, public/private bus or otherwise? Depends on how far the states are. But if it's more than 10 hours I think flying is more ideal.

Lol.

@wreon in that case I'll take the bus too. I'm sure they have busses on a weekly or maybe even every other day basis. Car rentals can go up to $500. I rented it once before I went from new jersey to Pennsylvania and rented for 2 days. It cost a lot. The only benefit of having a car is ithe convenience and freedom of being able to travel every were on ur own time

Amtrak (passenger train) is likely cheaper than a rental car. Check www.amtrak.com for routes and rates.

I'm day 3 in San Francisco! San Francisco has been a confusing place. I came here prepared for summer (so I'm packed with berms and basic shirts), but was faced with 18-22°C weather. I end up dressing for a HK winter, only that I'm woefully unprepared. But the sun still burns, so I'm nice and toasted because the cold wind fools my Singaporean mind that I'm not sweating = I'm not getting burnt. Regardless of the confusing weather, I'm insistent on enjoying the various cuisines unavailable in SG. Huevos rancheros has been something I've been dying to try! Amazingly messy dish with a hearty feel to it, I added Tabasco for extra kick. Dungeness crab. My first taste of this breed of crab, it is almost impossible to find in SG. It isn't as sweet as the Sri Lankan variety, more salty, but it made for an amazing dinner. I also ventured into the infamous Castro street! It is known for its LGBT community and nightlife; I've never seen so many openly homosexual couples walking together in my entire life. It also occurs to me that the fact that I find it amazing shows how oppressed the LGBT community in SG has been oppressed, whether through political or social pressures. All in all, San Francisco has been amazing. It is the most accepting city of love, I see mixed couples, LGBT couples, straight couples coexisting in perfect harmony. I truly wish the world could be more accepting to love and let love; San Francisco is the perfect example of how we can all coexist together in perfect harmony, adding our own unique colours to the tapestry of our community.

Nice pics wreon. California from what I know, espicially where you are at, has a mild climate. Not too cold and not too hot.

Next stop: LA la land. The drive to Los Angeles was a mental challenge for me; it was Charing's birthday and I insisted on not allowing her to drive on her big day. Those were big words considering the fact that I was the less experienced driver. In Singapore, she drove on a daily basis while I drove once every two weeks or so. Regardless, I wasn't going to swallow my words. Without skipping a beat after picking up the rental, we got into our first accident. Bumped from behind for no particular reason. Shaken but determined, I insisted on continuing the drive. The cloudy drive through the golden gate bridge. After the eventful drive to LA, we quickly found refuge in Venice Beach Beautiful beach with beautiful people. Everything seems to be bigger and brighter here; attitudes are pretty large. People here either become your best friend or the biggest pain in the ass. And no place seems larger than life than the ultimate experience in simulacra and simulation: Disneyland. I went to both Disneylands, universal studios... Needless to say, I have been stuffed with hyper reality. All in all, I guess that's what LA is to me: a super loud and proud place that treads the balance between jarringly gaudy and amazingly beautiful. LA is the land where dreams take flight, if you dare to jump for it and aren't afraid of the fall.

Nice pictures wreon! I'm surprised you survived LA traffic with only a minor fender bender.

Looks like an awesome trip so far. Just the thought of driving in LA traffic makes me uncomfortable. Austin traffic can be terrible but Los Angeles has to be about 1000 times worse.

The number of driving stories I have now... Too hilarious. Nice pictures wreon! I'm surprised you survived LA traffic with only a minor fender bender. In the end, all the drivers had scraped the car once, Charing and I got into fender benders once each.
