Yup, unfortunately I don't believe there was a single person called Jesus who actually existed. A bunch of Mexican mothers would disagree... Seriously though, I don't think there are too many scholars who would argue Jesus never existed, even Richard Dawkins, possibly the worlds most famous atheist backed down in a debate when he was challenged after saying Jesus never existed, and corrected himself. Getting historians to agree on what he did and said is another matter...

Interesting goal.
I like how atheists like to pick on some certain facts like inquisition or misconceptions in Christianity, yet missing the picture as a whole.
There are a lot of religions, some are called sects though, but it doesn't really matter (Christianity used to be in a sect stage too), all of them use the same principle to abuse their adepts. That principle being of course fear of supernatural being, and abuse being mind control (simplifying a little, there's more to it, surely).
So you need to get out that first, than use human sacrifice, which hunting and jihad as an examples, that's the scientific method imo.
Some biblical mythology could be based on real events, but what does that proves or disproves? As I said, there's a lot more to it.

Pete, I think it's better not to discuss religion on this forum, it can be sensitive. Let's bring it in into private chats.

Sure, although there is a real movement going on at the moment. I'm not sure you can hide from the science anymore.

The science doesn't directly disprove religion, there always workaround could be found. Science can study religion (theology). World view just changes from mythology based to more scientific and reason based. That said, science has its own good share of myths. It's completely pointless exercise to disprove existence of god using physics, for example. Because god DOES exist. As a mythological character.

Thanks, I like to discuss philosophical type of questions sometimes.
I remember, I used to run Debate club back in ETC. At first, it was doing ok, but then all degraded into trolling and got abandoned.

Well, I think, guild forums where people usually banter and goof around is not the best place for such topics, but I can try to bring up couple of them.
