No one album. Depend on my mood. James Blake, Kanye and Daft punk were all good. Do you normally listen to albums? Yeah. I usually go for albums. I look at it as an entire body of work, and the songs are just little pieces of that artist at particular moments of their lives. Most albums take 1-2 years and a person would've grown so much by the time they finish their next record. So in a way you could look at music as a biography for these artists (or group of artists as a band). I am alsovery particular of flow - arrangement of tracks in 1 record. So i often enjoy deranged writers as they write ridiculously eccentric music. One good example is Michael Angelakos of Passion Pit. When people hear Gossamer, it's just really good pop music at surface value. Lyrically and the way he sings, one would realize his anxiety, paranoia and conflicting opinions on different subjects (love is just greed, he says but it's funny how he celebrates love a lot in his songs). He got me curious and when i searched about him he is apparently diagnosed and struggling with bipolar disorder, which explains the wackiness of the record. But it's just so sincere you can't help but relate how much he bleeds. So im really more of a "the feels guy". Doesn't even have to be lyrics, that can be heard even without the vocals, as proven by instrumental bands. Obviously that type of appreciation doesnt work for everybody, but it does for me.

Damn yes! Now looking at music technically is an entirely different matter, and something I do from time to time. Although it would be awesome if anyone who knows music production can give some insights about this. It's one very important process in music I would enjoy sinking hours into.
I think that's why I love music so much. There is so much freedom of expression. And nobody is really ever wrong with our different ways of listening and we could appreciate more how each person is so unique, that it's hard to argue that the concept of soul doesn't exist. But that's an entirely different matter

A well crafted album is truly a piece of art (title, cover art, composition, flow, etc). Originally I discovered music this way, however, at present, how we use the music has little to do with the artiest, but rather the impact it has on the listener. As such, we rarely listen to an album more then once, cherry picking the songs which receive the best response. Is there a particular album which has impacted your life?

Haha, I suffered a bit of mild (some people would argue it was worse) depression when I was younger and the songs had been the only things that kept me intact. That feeling when you can't relate to anyone you know irl and here comes an artist who has no idea who you are yet be able to sum you up entirely what you feel. Such a good feeling to realize you're not so alone after all. My teenage years involved listening to a lot of pop punk and emo (no not the /wrist emo, the ones where they talk about actual problems). My favorites are probably Commit This to Memory by Motion City Soundtrack, and Stay What You Are by Saves the Day. But as I've gotten older I kind of got into more genres and stuff: BAND - ALBUM Lydia - Illuminate Bon Iver - Bon Iver Charlie Simpson - Young Pilgrim The Format (Fun vocalist Nate Ruess' previous band) - Dog Problems The Gaslight Anthem - Handwritten Sufjan Stevens - Age of Adz Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake It's Morning Would like to know your lists as well.

My favorite album is the self titled Sublime album. Been listening to it for what feels like 20 years and it is still great. Damn Heroin killed the lead singer...

I'm a bit weak on salsa music. Hard to mix due to its beat structure. Here's two songs with a Latin vibe. Any music distinctly Portuguese you could post here? Samba: Hong Kong - Michi Sarmiento Latin: Manu Chao-Bongo Bong

Solid list. I look forward to listening to them This might show my age but: Daft Punk - Discovery (Two men making electronic sounds while dressed as robots. This album made me realise its ok to do things diffrently. As long as you do it --HARDER--BETTER--FASTER--STRONGER then the rest ^^) Nirvana - Unplugged in New York (The reason I started playing guitar. One of the most emotional sets I've ever seen, especially considering what happened to Kurt Cobain shortly after.) Snoop Dogg - Doggy Style (Thankfully my tastes have developed a little since the days of the dog pound, but it shaped much of my attitude through high school)

Is there a reason why this thread should not be in public forum? Just so that the public may enjoy this collective music interest?

Is there a reason why this thread should not be in public forum? Just so that the public may enjoy this collective music interest? I made one before remember? And then one of our members posted youtube links like crazy and I had to delete them because everyone was like "OH MY THIS THREAD IS SO SLOW MY PC IS LAGGING" and then I didn't try to make another up until this guy shows up and posts this. Oh which reminds me, you guys should check out IBM1401 album. It's pretty good. From wikipedia: Art inspired by the IBM 1401 In October 2006, Icelandic avante-garde musician Jóhann Jóhannsson released the album 'IBM 1401, A User's Manual through music publisher 4AD.[15] The concept is based upon work done in 1964 by his father, Jóhann Gunnarsson, chief maintenance engineer of one of the country’s first computers, and Elias Davidsson, one of the first programmers in the country. The album was originally written for a string quartet, organ and electronics and to accompany a dance piece by long-standing collaborator friend, Erna Ómarsdóttir. For the album recording, Johann has rewritten it for a sixty-piece string orchestra, adding a new final movement and incorporating electronics and vintage reel-to-reel recordings of a singing IBM 1401 found in his father’s attic.[16]
