Now that XCOM Classic is on sale till February 12th, I'd figure I would showcase this wonderful classic with everyone here. Expect lots of micromanagement, lots of silly names, and ofc a lot of dead and dying soldiers that have the final words "If only I wasn't constrained by Time Units". This is one of my favorite games of the Classics, and if everyone likes how the series turns out, I might do some more on either higher difficulty, or a different continent, some crazy rules, or the sequel.
The Story: In the year 1999, Earth is invaded by an unknown alien force with an unknown agenda. Various government forces attempt to negotiate a compromise with the aliens, but to no avail. In an attempt to stem the onslaught of abductions and mass murder, the Governments of the world decide to try and take them out seperately. Most notably, the Japanese came up with the Kiryu Kai air force, and even with their most advanced technology, not a single UFO was downed.
Eventually, the world governments come up with an idea to not only have a taskforce dedicated to fighting the alien incursion, but to also investigate what it is that the want to stop the invasion once and for all. And thus, the Extraterrestrial Combat Unit, or XCOM, was born. Whenever UFO's land, XCOM would have unilateral jurisdiction in the handling of the Alien threat, be issued the best of the best in Armanent and Aircraft, and be the first in the line of defense for all things alien. The Unit would also have to deal with various government forces to gain funding and support, lest the program be shut down for good.
So far, the BP crew have made a few elections as to what will happen...
First, the main HQ 'New Liberty' will be stationed in, as Peith puts it, 'Murica, inside Texas (as Lucas put it, guns are bigger in Texas; hopefully that just means our guns). We also have a few name changes, in that we have a soldier named Sue "Sexy Bear" Daniels, John Rambo, and Chris "2 Chins" Farley. Nothing can go wrong right? Right?
If anyone is interested in having a soldier immortalized in the XCOM playthrough, just tell me what you would like his name to be. As I get more soldiers, we'll get more names added to our roster. Who knows, maybe your soldier will make it to the Alien HQ in France... er... space.
Current Base: North America (West of Dallas: Lady Liberty)
No plans yet for any sort of expansion... still the first month
Current Research: Laser Weapons
Next Research and further building development to be determined by BP and public members.
Chief Auto-concerns: Soldiers and Gear
Soldiers are still too weak to be taking on even weak aliens so I believe it is our upmost importance that soldiers be given, contingent on research and monetary limits, better weapons and armor. I believe that base development should focus more on this aspect than anything else.
