Yep you read it right, I missed my 2000th post thanks to Karlos4 and maxi1230 but I'm definitely going to make up for it now
I didn't prepare anything in advance for the milestone, but I firmly believe in making stuff up on the way. Some of what you are going to read, most of you already know. It has been exactly two years since I joined BP, going to start my third year here in a week. In the time that has passed, I've met a lot of people. Good players and great friends. I owe them the fun I have had in BP, and the good times spent.
Just ran out of words to say. I don't wanna spend my 3000th praising you lot, you are supposed to praise me for bearing with you guys for so long
So about me, who am I? Where do we come from? What am I doing here? What is my pur...err sorry. That can come later.
The origins of my nick were pretty simple too. Lightning because I like fast thinking, and Fury for the impact force of the fast thinking. It suited me the moment I played my first match against ol Ter in World.
CotC era was fun, the art and music were gorgeous which kept me playing. Deck size was 30, but my starting deck was pretty weak. I could see that the Merchant had better cards for my hero like Supernova, more Fireballs and Lightning Strikes. Aldon, Raven and Sandworms. Jasmine too. I started grinding and soon had enough SC for a new starter pack which I used to complete my mage deck.
I was a total noob in QM. I was the guy with the 50 card deck you beat in the 70 - 90 ranges and never saw again. I got my butt kicked a lot more, but every victory was well earned. My progress was really slow though, and although the battles were fun it was apparent soon that I needed to grind for better cards.
I left SE for a few months then, grinding was never my thing. Eventually though I did come back, but after stumbling upon a seriously epic community. Suddenly there was a whole world of online strategy for a card game that I had played casually for a while. I started going through deck lists and guides, mostly by Preybird. I read about Guilds and became familiar with the community and I liked what I saw. iClipse was the World Champion back then, his hero of choice was Gwen. She became my next hero.
I didn't make a forum account until June 2013. This was shortly after I met a guild player ingame. I had previously fought some BP players and TJ ones too. A1 wasn't as active, they kept to themselves at that time, but my first guild invite came from the former GSE guild leader GrimGuardians.
I had been thinking of joining a guild at that time, but I wasn't sure if I met the requirements. A1 needed players to have 4x all cards, TJ wanted super competitive monsters and BP was huge. Grim was making a new guild, and I thought I could learn there how to be as good as the players I saw on the forums. We were called the Promise Keepers (PK).
I learned a lot from Grim, I dropped 50 card decks and switched to 40 cards (DP was released around then, with the deck size increasing from 30). He used Eladwen and Lance, heroes that I later picked up from him. My training with him was similar to the PDP here in BP. He introduced me to organized tournaments in IRC and the forums, and how to prepare and play in them. It was in my first pop up that I met Meeklosh and Skurai.
My first step into competitive play led to meeting more players, including Colosal who hosted a lot of them, and Index who won a lot of them. I never made it to any final, but my gameplay improved a lot. Unfortunately PK disbanded in November 2013, with most of its players leaving to join Black Templars (led by BT Caparod). I sent Zhou a PM asking if I could join BP, and received a warm welcome.
As a pupil, I still only had 1 deck I could play competitively, Lance with Gwen thrown in sometimes. I was nowhere near ready for winning anything other than QM. I needed to master more heroes, and for that I needed more cards. But there was also excitement in BP around that time. WC 2013.
I was promoted to Warrior (we were called Fighters at the time) the same time as Blackmask, and participated in the European Regional. The mood was fever pitch in SE. IRC was full of players testing decks, scouting opponents and discussing the leading finalists. Players were on Twitch watching live matches of those who were still in the running (I made a brief appearance ), and older members like Raph, Keropok, Pandevmonium and OgAusp (who made it to the top 32) offering advice and encouragement in the BP channel. Good times, and epic memories. Bittersweet I guess, but that's another story.
It was a massive undertaking, and I consider it a great success despite not making it that far. I went toe to toe with tough opponents and saw even tougher players tank it out. That experience has helped a lot in my future endeavors.
After the WC, I became famous (in BP) for my rush Eladwen, and later Portal Majiya. I was unstoppable in QM. Burn mages became my specialty. New QM rewards (SC for the top 100) were recently implemented by Kyle, and I saw that as a chance to quickly complete my playset. Which I did twice, leaving me with enough to finance several new decks and be more creative when not playing QM.
MightyOak, JTL and Karlos joined BP at this time. With Yotenka, Colosal, BM, Meek, Nerull, Renew, Theonecabs, Doxsta, Holy Punisher, Geckt, Evil Papa, Lord Wane, Deathvan, Shock, Kokujo, Joey, Mip, Sir Shajir, Ross, Zeuhl, Killerheart, Kraty, Levi, Ocnarb, Bicin and a lot of the oldies, we spent more time in IRC playing matches than anything else. PFG for SF was also up at this point, and preparations for the new beta set were in place.
After a lot of sparring to fine tune the decks I could play, and getting a solid step in the competitive scene, I approached Zhou and asked him to be my mentor. It was a match made in heaven, and so perfect I'm still jealous he's getting married this year. Lol.
Zhou is the type of mentor you find rarely. One of the reasons I made it as a Guardian is because he was one when he was my mentor and I tried to follow his example.
My PDP article, 'Lance - A Complete Guide on Teching' was completed a month later.
I stepped up my game. By September, I had my own place in the Trophy Room. My first tournament win was just before I passed my Knighthood trial. In June 2014, another tournament also started, that after winning with my team, I would consider my first greatest success. An 80-man guild war between 7 different guilds which lasted 2 months. My discard Zaladar performed admirably, added the link for nostalgia.
I trained two Padawans, who were more than worthy of Knighthood. Siris first and then Karlos. Siris left for RS, and though I respect him still as a former brother, his departure was the first time I was truly bitter here. No tourney loss got to me more than losing him as a pupil. But wounds heal and become a stronger part of you as you grow.
Karlos made it to Knights, and later formed a German guild with Maxi. They are gone, so if you see them wearing BP tags, report em to Meek. I'm kidding though, if you meet him be ready to bring your best.
I helped Abysmal and Oak with setting up the new PDP, and hope to continue that in the future.
Can't really remember why I wrote my first article for the Shadow Era community, it was a mess with numbers all over the place. I guess it was just after SF was released and I wanted to contribute my part. I got much better later, and did the $19.99 guide for Shattered Fates and the Wulven Spotlight on Guilds: WotBP. Both were featured on the front page of the SE forums.
After GoT ended in August, I got into hosting weekly BP Challenges and internal pop ups in IRC. This was another side to the game I really enjoyed. Thanks to Colly and Zhou, I became more than an amateur at it.
In November, I was asked to join the Guardians. I'll like to thank Meek and the rest of the Council again for believing me worthy of the honor.
By the time WC2014 drew close, I had completed competitive builds for every hero except Logan, Praxix and Skervox, especially Garth. So had most of BP, because we wrecked it apart lol. 8 out of 16 places in the Grand Finals were BP. That was our year, and I'm proud to have been there with em.
I took a step back in January 2015 from competitive play, and returned in May. Fast forward to recent times and here I am writing my first major milestone thread.
Thanks everyone for taking the time to read this trip down memory lane. Here is to another year of memories with you guys, another 1000 forum game posts and maybe I'll finally win a competitive player of the month this time

3000 Posts of Memories
Well I started playing Shadow Era around November/December 2012. Like most people I found it first on my mobile, after looking for online TCGs. My first hero was Nishaven. I chose him for his flavor text 'All will be forgotten' and his board wipe ability which looked awesome. Also, the guy was on the front screen at the time. The origins of my nick were pretty simple too. Lightning because I like fast thinking, and Fury for the impact force of the fast thinking.
