This is a bit of a playthrough I'm doing for this game. I love the dev team and am working on transitioning this over to that website as well, but for anyone interested, this is the playthrough in its glory:
Welcome to Star Traders 4X. My name is Abysmal, and this is going to be a walkthrough of this fine game. This is also going to be interesting because not only are you forum-goers at startradersrpg.proboards.com going to be viewing this, but a few good friends have unknowingly volunteered their creative juices to the mix and I'm certain that some kind of weirdness will ensue.
Without further ado, let's start. Now, I like these games with a passion, have every "Elite" version of the game, and for subtle advertising that is not so subtle anymore, I will be showing off the Great Houses: Thulun, Javat, and Steel Song. This is to serve two purposes. The first, I never fully played with pure Houses, only the Syndicates. The second option is that for anyone who is on the fence, this playthrough may push you over to get the elite version, and support the developers.
The map I chose is a 100x50 map, Rim style map. And without further ado, let's start:
This right here is what most of your games will look like. There are six ships in the area: three Colony Hives, two Templar Defenders, and one Explorer. Hives are what are used to 'colonize' new worlds. They aren't faction-specific, but they do host one faction at a time. Templar Defenders are unique ships found only at the start of the game. They have much better tech than we do (for now), and are geared to help defend us in the event our enemies, the Xeno, spot us. Explorers, or Scouts as I prefer, are ships that have the ability to scan, revealing much of the map. It is the most useful ability in the game, and I almost always recommend doing it on the first turn. Scouting is important. Now let's look at the screen. On the top left is minimal information about our current ship, which in this case is the Colony Hive, which... um... isn't looking so hot at the moment. The blue bar, Water-fuel, is essentially how much we can use our special abilities like 'Scan', 'Barrage', and 'Colonize'. Hull is... well... its health. The three symbols to the right are our current ships abilities. In this case, I can colonize a new world, scan a portion of the map, or fire a gun barrage. We'll discuss these later. For now, we have three colony hives, but two planets, so let's scan a bit south to see what I can find:
Well, we are in luck, we have quite a few planets in our vincinity. Let's look at them:
Well, clearly not all planets are created equal. As you can see, there are two distinct characteristics, Quality and Mineral. Quality is a Hard-cap to how many improvements we can have. Mineral is a limit to how much resources we can generate, and can also be limited by how much Quality we have. The numbers also represent an interesting mechanic of dice rolls. Every little thing in this game is influenced by a die roll, in this case for what we could have. For example, the Planet "called" Leiwin has a Quality of 11-29, so I could have as high as 26, or a miserable 10. With a high amount like this, I bet this planet would be great for Thulun so we can maximize our population and our research. But, what Hive is Thulun. Well, if I choose a Hive ship and tap the ship icon in the upper left hand side...
Bam!!! All the ship info I will ever need. On a side note, it really makes you wonder why a baby maker is level 400. Just my two cents on the matter.
I think for now, we will have our Thulun take over Leiwin, Javat will take over Chalicstine, and Steel Song will have Xenox. But, Colonizing is very extensive. We can only colonize once a turn, so I will Colonize the factions in this order.
With Thulun colonized, I can view planetary stats and upgrades by tapping it, and two options appear... Hab I and Mine I.
Tapping on either option allows me access to the Buy or Subsidy option. Buy allows me to build something slower, cheaper, whereas Subsidizing rushes building by 30% but costs me double. Personally, I would much rather have my people happy so I will build Hab I's subsidized for all. If Thulun finishes it Hab I before Steel Song starts Hab I, then I will subsidize Mine I.
For now, this is all I will write. Next time, securing our economy.
Name Changes:
Javat Prime--> PWCII
Thulun Prime--> Groot
Steel Prima--> New Mandalore
