Happy Chinese New Year to everyone who celebrates it! For those who still getting hongpaos, lucky you! Count your blessings. For those who are giving hongpaos, give with a cheerful heart. Its more blessed to give than to receive. Happy Holidays! And travel safe. As for me, I will be at home. And I have to work on Saturday (9th Feb) and will be back to work at the 14th Feb. Kinda suck but oh well.

Hahaha, yea I heard Laisee in HK is quite heavy cost, around 200-300 HKD per laisee? Marrying after CNY is definitely more cost effective. On 1 hand, you still get to collect for your "final" year, on the other hand, you don't have to start giving yet. But oh well, I am sure getting the wife earlier far outweighs the cost in terms of happiness. ;D

Happy Chinese New Year guys. Can someone explain hongpao / laisee? It's a red packet which contains MONEY in it. Well, it not really the amount of money in one that's matter; but the amount of red packet received. The more u give away (as an adult) during this festive season; the more u will gain back in the coming year.

Ok, and obviously you start giving away after you are married? Yeah. A married person is considered an 'adult' and hence has the duty to provide for the 'younger' ones. Usually, in developed countries, the unmarried and old singles (hahahaha) stop receiving once they feel that they are financially buoyant and also starts to dish out Ang baos to younger kids. (But not giving to their peers) There is no strict rules after all, it's all about goodwill. Most married couples will also give Ang baos to their respective parents and parents In law as a sign of continued respect and thanks for raising them. And yes, in money minded Singapore, the kids want big money inside. Usually the kids are only allowed to open their packets in private, but it's not uncommon to see uncourteous kids opening right after they get it, in the presence of the giver (gasp!!!) and moaning VERY loudly that the amount of $$$ is pathetic. Poor up-bringing, in my books. Distasteful. The parents ought to get their knuckles rapt.

I used to opened in 'Everyone birthday' 7th of the Lunar January. I don't think giving more with get more money, more happiness perhaps? As a child, I open mine on the 15th. My Favorite aunts are those who are 'not rich' but goes a little further to give me 'a bit more'. It's easy to pack a big one when you are rich but much harder if they are relatively poorer. If anyone's coming to visit singapore, chinese new year's a great time. It's very festive; probably as big as Xmas and I can show you guys around, Taste the food and culture, go visiting my relatives and try your hand at giving red packets out and teaching the kids how to play SE. (jasmine is banned)
