I have been using Windows 8 for about 3 weeks now, and I have to say, it leaves all competition in the Dust. From a product integrator perspective it is incredible. 1 app purchase for every device, clomps apples half hearted attempt at an app store, the remote features of controlling everything from your Xbox to your remote devices is well coded. The feature set is the richest I have ever seen. The complaints that is has no start menu is warranted, and an odd decision, but I installed clamshell and never will go back to wimdows 7. OSX is a joke compared to this, and while I liked OSX and IOS before, due to the integration it offered, it's not suitable anymore, with odd lockins, like not being able to use time machine to a network share etc, and apps from iPad not being compatible with the desktop OS, are now suddenly apparent. The osxserver product is a joke. Windows 8 will no doubt take advantage of these things for Halo4 and gamers are quickly going to realise that being able to play the same game from their xboxes, the pc and even tablet, with every setting and save synced is an amazing thing.
Seriously I am already setting up remoteapp with server 2012 and it works flawlessly. Can run everything with remotefx and it all works. Ubuntu and OSX no longer have a chance. Lync now does proper sip integration, and as of yesterday the largest sip provider in the UK (gamma telecom) now support linking Sip trunks directly into lync. Every product from server to desktop, office, lync, exchange, everything now supports cloud centric management and integration with sync accross any windows device. If there ever was a golden age of Microsoft, it's about to be overshadowed, by itself.
